Westwood
College’s South Bay Campus worked with Doffin Investments to contirbute to an
art show titled “YOUTH INVEST IN THE FUTURE” along with Torrance High
School and Otis
College of Art and Design. The Open House and Art Show is one of the
ways Westwood College partners with the South Bay communities.
This
art show focused on the encouragement of young and emerging artists from
various points along their educational journey.
The show opened to a large crowd from the participating schools,
family, friends, community and the diverse clientele of Doffin
investments. Alton Takabayashi M.D., of Doffin Investments, the event
organizer, introduced the show by inviting speakers from
each representing school to discuss mentoring our youth, a positive way
of investing in their future. Speakers included the owner of Doffin
Investments, Dimitry Tikhonov, faculty from Westwood, Torrance High
School, a mother of a participating artist, and
6 recent Otis graduates.
The event also provided a special gift of a
coloring book which included the names of all participating artists and
illustrations from our South Bay Students and Alumni. The response
from the community in attendance was tremendous.
All of the artwork featured in the show was original and created by
the students of Westwood College, Torrance High, and Otis College. The
publicity material featured an Illustration by a current Westwood
student, Kat Wiechert, whom won a competition to
be featured on the postcard and coloring book cover.
The Art Show was held at Doffin Investments in Torrance, California on June 22nd,
2013 from 5:30pm to 8pm. Program Chair Anna Tuason,
Instructor Alicia Gorecki, and Design Graduate Advisor, Tuan Hua were
heavily involved in the preparation of and hosting of this event.
