Westwood College South Bay played host to it's annual DesignFest 4.5 On December 9th, 2011. The exhibit which included work from current Visual Communications and Game Art Students as well as Design Alumni examined the potential future coming in a post 2012 world. Is an apocalypse inevitable or could we be on a path to a beautiful Utopian future?

As guests entered the exhibit they were welcomed by recorded and projected video messages as well as live uniformed DF 4.5 Guides whom greeted them and offered a tour of the event. The first stop of the tour was the theme room, which showcased a progression of artistic possibilities leading from light utopian visions to a dark and destroyed future. Guests were then lead to a life drawing room with an apocalyptic heroine modeling for live drawing sessions.

As the tour progressed, guests were led to a gathering place with food and music provided by DJ. The final stop on the tour was an artist alley. Graduates Matt Alarie, Erika Gomez, Johnny Gomez, Rodrigo Lopez, David J. Martinez, and Ulmar Palacio where all on hand to display and discuss their portfolios, demo reels, and current work. The artists sold posters, prints, and t-shirts which were screened on site.
Thank you to all the students who submitted work, the DesignFest 4.5 committee, students Nathaniel Charpentier, Dijon Herron, Karen King, Brian Parungao, Aaron Stanfield, Enrique Reyes, Laura Rosales, Kat Wiechart, Faculty and Staff Advisors Alicia Gorecki and Tuan Hua, Design Department Chair Anna Tuason, and to the administration for allowing us to showcase our amazing students!

Pleasejoin us as current Westwood South Bay School of Design Students and Design Alumni exhibit work that illustrates thepossibilities 2012 holds. There has beenspeculation that 2012 will bring a range of transformative or cataclysmicevents. The DF4.5 guides will lead youthrough the apocalyptic and utopianpotential futures these artists have envisioned.

Alongwith the varied media related to the theme, the event will also feature nonthemed work, a graduate artist alley including work from Matt Alarie (GameArt), Erika Gomez (Game Art), Johnny Gomez (Game Art), Mathew Joseph (GameArt), David J. Martinez (Game Art), Rodrigo Lopez (Visual Communications), UlmarPalacio (Game Art), plus a costumed model for life drawing, snacks, beverages,and dj.

Thisevent is open to the public and artwork will be for sale.

On a HOT San Pedro Art Walk, Westwood Southbay School of Design hosted MISLEAD, a propaganda themed art exhibit featuring the work of Graduating Seniors, Jose Hernandez, Isa Zapata, Lillian Martinez, Lisa Prevost, Mike Tomasian, and Tim Celis.

The Artists welcomed family, friends, and more than 250 other visitors from the community into the gallery to discuss, view, and purchase their work. The response was Tremendous!

Mislead – Art Show

Seven artists seek to immerse you into an unforeseen world of propaganda leaving you in a state of quandary and thirsting for more.

The exhibit includes work from an exceptionally talented group of undergraduate senior students with very diverse backgrounds from Westwood College School of Design. These emerging individual artists work in the disciplines of photography, multimedia, graphic design, digital and traditional illustration, as well as digital painting, concept art and 3D.

This show explores the seven techniques of propaganda and double speak through the interpretation of our seven artists. Francisco Chavira, Jose Hernandez, Isa Zapata, Lillian Martinez, Lisa Prevost, Mike Tomasian, and Tim Celis.

Opening night will host all seven artists available to discuss their paintings, sculptures, photography and other medias. Work from several other undergrad artists will be showcased as well. Expect work for sale, gift shop items, live DJ, snacks, and beverages.
Westwood College has sponsored several art shows in the community and many art enthusiasts enjoy the multicultural diverse selection and spirit of the shows.

In conjunction with the San Pedro First Thursdays Art Walk, the opening reception will take place on July 7th from 6-9PM at fINdings Art Center 470 W. 6th Street, San Pedro, CA 90731. Its time for the 4th annual DesignFest. This show will feature work from the Westwood South Bay School of Design. All participants have been given a drawing board closing the format for the show, but opening up the content and media possibilities, the only requirement is work is done
"on the board".

More than 50 large works are being submitted along with an additional 40 small works. All work will be available for purchase via silent auction.

Visit the portfolio room where a chosen group of student portfolios will be on view, stop by the artist alley to satisfy your holiday list, and don't forget to bring your drawing tools, two live costumed models will be posing in the life drawing room.

Music, light snacks and beverages will be provided...

DesignFest 2010 "On the Board"
a show that takes us back to the drawing board.
is December 10, 2010 from 7-9pm on campus!

The show will feature work from the Visual Communication and Game Art programs. Drawing Boards in two size options (18x24" and 9x12") will be provided to any design student whom would like to create a submission. The content is limited only to the bounds of your imagination and the surface of a drawing board. Remind yourself of the important role drawing has in your work, no matter what media or mode the final product is rendered in. Stretch yourself and your creativity to fit in this open content, closed format show.

You must request a board by Friday the October 22nd by signing up with Anna, Alicia, or Tuan.

The first committee meeting will take pace Friday October 22, 2010 at 11:30am in the conference room. We are still looking for student volunteers to join our committee and help organize this yearly event. The committee requires a weekly Friday 11:30 am meeting commitment leading up to the event and it allows you a voice in the direction of the event, it offers a chance for you to experience planning and executing an art exhibit opening, it gets you actively involved in your program with like minded peers, and it helps you build a stronger resume! Plus, its FUN! If you are interested in joining please attend our first meeting or let Anna, Alicia, or Tuan know, the success of this event rests in students hands!

Jewel and feather adorned show horses skirted the open doors from which music and the scent of popcorn lifted into the air as patrons filtered in and out of fINdings Art Center on July 1^st, 2010.

Inside the gallery “Sideshow”, a month long art exhibit featuring the work of South Bay design students centered on the theme of circus freaks was showcased. On opening night, in conjunction with San Pedro’s First Thursdays, ART, MUSIC, POPCORN and FREAKS including the bearded lady, circus doll, ringmaster and other odd characters were delivered to a crowd of standing room only family, friends, and community whom were all out to support and admire the work.

This was a first for the South Bay Design department, bringing the work of the students out into a formal art gallery setting off campus. The show provided a venue for student work to be exhibited for an extended period of time, one month, and the chance for students to sell their work with the proceeds going toward their education. The public responded with record sales for an opening night at the location. Congratulation to all students who sold work and to the patrons whom invested in not only the artwork they purchased but also the educational experience they helped fund.

The show was student driven, with faculty and staff advisors, Students were given the opportunity to organize and implement the gallery art opening and extended show. Students from each of the design programs submitted work as a student committee prepared publicity posters, postcards, artist directory, space planning and all details related to the event/show.

Opening night ended with accolades for student work, the positive publicity for Westwood College and for fINdings Art Center and the community visibility gained by working collaboration in the City of San Pedro.

Mouse Pad Grid Contest Submissions - DUE NOVEMBER 17th

Get a mouse pad from one of the committee members or Alicia or Anna (they are limited in number so if you want to compete its first come first serve) Design, Illustrate, Decorate it according the "Once upon a time (dark fairy tale)" Theme. Submit it for a chance to have your work blown up onto a 6x6 grid of Mousepads to be featured at DesignFest.

This is work that will be chosen for one room at DesignFest dedicated to the theme.
Three awards will also be allotted for work from this room at DesignFest.
